Hannah Swallow was baptised on 17th September 1769 at Kimpton in Hertfordshire, daughter of Elizabeth Swallow, formerly Wilds, and her husband John Swallow. In 1791, when she was 22 years old, she married Thomas Philips at Kimpton, although he was from nearby Harpenden. The following year, they had a son, Thomas, baptised at Harpenden, but he died as a baby. In 1898 they had a daughter who died before she could be baptised. Both children's records describe the family as paupers from the workhouse. No further trace has been found of Thomas.

Hannah appears to have lived to the age of 69, being buried in Harpenden on 28th November 1838. She was again described as having lived in the workhouse.
