Elizabeth Wilds' origins are unknown. Her first sighting is on 7th June 1767, when she had a daughter, Sarah, baptised at Kimpton in Hertfordshire. Sarah's father was a widower named John Swallow. John and Elizabeth did marry, but not until nearly two years after Sarah's baptism, by which time Elizabeth was pregnant with their second child. They married on 30th April 1769 at Kimpton, and went on to have three more children at Kimpton after their marriage. John died in 1774, just two years after the baptism of their youngest child. Elizabeth outlived John by 27 years, being buried at Kimpton on 8th January 1801, when she was described as a widow from the poor house.
