Habijah was a posthumous son of Thomas and Mary. His father died at Dunstable, and his mother went to Roxbury after that, where he was born. Although his mother was named his guardian, his father's sister Dorothy Denison brought him up. After graduating from Harvard in 1723, he kept school on Martha's Vineyard until offered a position at Woburn in 1725. In 1727, he was called to Attleborough, where he was ordained 22 Nov 1727. He had met his future bride while at Woburn, and returned there to marry her on 17 Oct 1728. His parsonage was a favorite stopping place of those whose business took them along the road between Boston and Providence. Habijah had inherited land in Maine from the Tyngs, Savages, and Foxes, and thus could finance the hospitality he provided.
