  24. Gulbrand and Ann Marie are both buried in the Upper Church cemetery (Pigeon Creek Cemetery) in Pigeon Falls.
  25. They traveled cross-country by wagon from Milwaukee to Black Earth in Dane County, Wisconsin where they lived for two years before making the three-week journey by covered wagon over wilderness trails to the farm in Trempealeau County.

  30. -- meaning, he was a coachman or driver. According to the Thomley Family History, he worked at the Thomlevold hotel and farm when he met and married Anne Marie. When asked what he did, he proudly said, "jeg var skyss skaffer pa volla!" This meant that he would drive tourists and hotel guests wherever they wanted to go and would act as a guide on fishing trips. He would ask tourists if they wanted still or "streamy" water and, depending on their answer, he knew exactly where to take them.
  31. Here they met the Eimons from Valdres, whom they had known or known about in Norway. The men worked in the lead mines and scouted for homesteads. Gulbrand and Ole Eimon obtained homesteads on adjoining land in Timber Creek in the Town of Hale, Trempealeau County, Wisconsin about 1868.
