Rites Held for Glancy Hertsel

Glancy Otis Hertsel, a resident of Richland Township passed away at the Lutheran Hospital last Saturday morning after being admitted to the hospital on Friday. He had been in failing health for the past two years and seriously ill since a week ago Wednesday.

He was united in marriage to Miss Hannah Walker Sept. 4, 1906. Surviving him are the widow and the following children: PFC Jesse Hertsel of Camp Shelby, Miss.; Mrs. Jack Gebert of Warsaw; Mrs. Spurgeon Egolf, Mrs. Harry Babcock, Fort Wayne; Mrs. Ellis Engle, Silver Lake; Mrs. Allan Shand, Columbia City; Otis Hertsel, Almeda Hertsel, and Lewis Hertsel at home. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. August Juillerat, Columbia Township; Mrs. John Hardy, Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. Herbert Cartwright, Fort Wayne; and Mrs. Void Hively, Thorncreek Township. One brother and one sister have preceded him in death (Russell Hertsel and Esta Mannen).

1920 U. S. Census: Glancy lived in Columbia City, 4th Ward with wife Hannah, children Mildred, Marjory, Hildreth, Ola Walker, Vernagene, and Jessie G.

1930 U. S. Census family lived in Union Township, Whitley County, IN

Glancy Otis Hertsel registered for the draft for World War I July 12, 1918. He was 37 years old. Described as having Black hair and medium height.
