Giles T RANSOM was an engineer on lake steamers. In the civil war he served in Co C, 21st regiment NY Vols, from 12 May 1861 to 12 Feb 1862, at which time was transferred to the naval service on the Mississippi River, where he served as seaman on the receiving ship "Clara Dolsen" from 22 to 28 Feb 1862; as Fireman first class 1 Mar to 5 July 1862. He was taken up on the rolls of the gunboat "General BRAGG" on 8 Jun 1862, and served as 1st Asst Engineer until 5 Aug 1862, when he died. He married in 1845 in Chicago, but lived in Buffalo.
