Personal Record of Gertrude Anderton Written by Gertrude Sophia Wood Anderton Transcribed by Marie Smith 18 June 2013 Blessed 7 Nov. 1897 by Charles Wood Sr. Baptized 10 June 1906 in Holden, Millard Co. Utah (Sidney Teeples Pond) by Leroy Stevens Confirmed 10 June 1906 by Anthony Stephenson Married to Cloyde Anderton on 22 July 1919 in Richfield, Sevier Co. Utah by Samuel G. Clark Endowed in Manti Temple 19 July 1922 Sealed to Cloyde Anderton in Manti Temple 19 July 1922 Patriarchal Blessing by Joseph S. Horne on 16 June 1933 I was born in Holden, Millard County Utah where I lived until May, 1919 when I came to Elsinore to live with my sister Ellen Shaw except 5 months from 12 May 1918 to Sept. 1918 that I lived in San Bernardo, Cal. I started school in 1903. The school house was brick with 2 rooms down stairs and 2 rooms up stairs. My first teacher was Annie Stephensen a friend of my older sisters. I was left handed which my father did not like so he asked Annie to see that I write with my right hand. I tried to tell her I could not but she stood over me and made me use my right hand. I have often thought if she had left me alone I would have been a better penman. My other teachers were Florence Stevens, Mina Stevens, Earl Acord, DeVere Childs, Reid Mathews and Mr. Reid. My father bought the first car owned by any one in Holden so it was his job to bring the L.D.S. Conference visitors from Oasis to Holden for conference then take them back when Conference was over. They came from S.L.C. by train. Some of them stayed at hour home. I enjoyed their visits at our house very much. I remember Rulon S. Wells, Andrew Jensen, Asst. Church Historian, Nephi L. Morris very well. President Heber J. Grant held me on his lap while riding in our car. My first Relief Society teacher partner was LaVere Tucker. I was living in the Second Ward at that time, abt. 1930. Other Relief society teaching partners were Lucy Jensen, Elsie Jensen, Phoebe Skougaard, Myrtle Bean, Ruby Meyers, Gaia Davis, Iva May Ogden, Elizabeth Lay Ford, Asta Johansen, and Dorothy Lund. Mrs. Dorothy Lund is my teaching partner at this time. In 1935 or 6 I was set apart as Assistant Chairman of the Second Ward Genealogical Committee. Andrew S. Kanphus was chairman and Cloyde Anderton Secretary. This office I held until late in 1938. My first home after I was married was an adobe 4 roomed house about 1 mile west of Monroe. Our first child (Cloyde Wood Anderton) was born there 25 May 1920. In the spring of 1922 we moved to Holden. We bought my father's farm and home in Holden. Here my children Stella, Lynn and Wilmer were born in the same house I was born in. When Wilmer was 2 months old we moved to Richfield. Our first home in Richfield was on 3rd North and 2nd West. Fae was born in this home. Later we moved to a home on 4th North 2nd West where Louise was born. We next moved to a home on 5th North and 2nd West. We lived there for a few years then moved to our present home on the Glenwood Road.
