Stella was born October 22, 1922 in Holden, Utah, the daughter of Cloyde and Gertrude Wood Anderton. She grew up in Richfield, Utah and graduated from Richfield High. She married James Raymond Smith in Preston, Idaho on November 7, 1942; the marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple on November 22, 1942. Following World War II Ray and Stella made their home in Murray. They are the parents of Marie Smith, Murray; Anne (Roger) Berky Mesa, Arizona; David R. (Penny), Sandy; Paul J. (Yvonne) Magna; Clyde W, (Linda) Murray; Lee K. (Eally) Holladay; and Alan L. (Tina) Aurora, Colorado. She was active in the Murray Civic Guild, the PTA, and served on the Murray Library Board. Her favorite church calling in the LDS Church was coordinator/choirster of the Junior Sunday School, where she served for 28 years.
