- ↑ Gertrude, age 8, and brother Harry, age 10, came in sailing ship to Prince Edward Isle on a sailing ship. Their mother had died and the father couldn't care for them. Harry later had a homestead near Estevan next to John Hentz and he sent for his sister who had been working as a servant.
- ↑ Living as a domestic in the home of Venclure Gay, wife Rachael Gay and their children, Grace, Russel and Wilfred.
It ways she was born Aug 24, 1881 in England. Immigrated 1893. and is a Presbyterian.
- ↑ Depression because of difficult child birth – couldn’t deliver and had to actually cut baby up to deliver it – that sent her into depression.
- ↑ Gertrude is living separate from John and is listed as a widow. John on the same census is listed as divorced. Neither is true.
- ↑ While her birth registration says she was born 22 Aug, later records say 24 Aug. Apparently, she believed that she was born on the 24 Aug, which suggests an error in her birth registration. (It wouldn't be the first time that a father was tasked with registering a birth and forgot the exact date.) However, the year must be 1882, assuming her birth was registered in a timely manner.
