George Worbey (or Waby, Worboys or variant spellings) was baptised on 7th November 1819 at Great Wymondley in Hertfordshire, son of Charlotte Worbey, formerly Primet, and her husband, George Worbey, an agricultural labourer and publican. The family did not live in Great Wymondley itself but in the hamlet of Walsworth in the neighbouring parish of Hitchin.
On 11th May 1844, George married Fanny Cooper at Hitchin, although she was from the nearby village of Arlesey. She already had a daughter who was a couple of years old at the time of their marriage.
After their marriage George and Fanny spent some time at Arlesey, where they had a daughter baptised in 1845. By 1847 they had moved a few miles north to Potton, where they appear to have lived for the rest of their lives. They had another nine children baptised at Potton between 1847 and 1866. George, Fanny and their children appear in the 1851 census at Dublin End in Potton. George worked as a carpenter.
Back in Hitchin, George's father died in 1852 and his mother died in 1867.
The 1871 and 1881 censuses each find George, Fanny and their children living at Horselow Street in Potton. By 1891 they had moved to Pound End and they had one of their married daughters and her husband and children living with them in a four roomed house.
George died on 27th January 1901 in Potton. He was 81 years old. Fanny survived him by ten years.
