George Walby was baptised on 8th July 1744 at Aston in Hertfordshire, son of Dorcas Walby, formerly Chapman, and her husband George Walby, a butcher.

Young George married when he was 27, on 4th August 1771 at Aston to Alice Wright. George and Alice had nine children together between 1772 and 1789. George's father died in 1776, and George was left five pounds in his father's will. George's mother died in 1800.

George's first known grandchild was born in 1803, and George would live to see at least thirty grandchildren born in his lifetime.

Alice died in 1816, when she was said to be 64 years old. George outlived her by just over five years, dying aged 77 and being buried on 16th July 1821 at Aston, where he appears to have lived his whole life. At the time of his burial he was described as a labourer.

1744: George Son of George & Dorcas Walby July 8

This baptism has been linked to the George Walby who married Alice Wright on the basis that it is at roughly the right time to correspond with the age quoted at his burial, in the same parish in which George married, had his children and was buried, and the adult George gave one of his children the distinctive name Dorcas, which was the name of the mother of the George baptised in 1744. No evidence has been found suggesting that the George baptised in 1744 died young or married anyone else.
