Facts and Events
Edward Walby was baptised on 7th August 1756 at Aston in Hertfordshire, son of Dorcas Walby formerly Chapman and her husband George Walby, a butcher. In 1764 Edward was left ten pounds in the will of his father's cousin, William Walby. In 1776, Edward's father died, and Edward was left five pounds in his father's will. By 1779 Edward had moved to the London area. He was married on 11th May 1779, to Elizabeth Wilkinson at the church of St George in the East in the eastern suburbs. They went on to have at least seven children together between 1780 and 1793, all born in the London area; the children baptised between 1780 and 1786 were baptised in Southwark, whilst the youngest two children were baptised in Shoreditch. It has yet to be established when either Edward or his wife Elizabeth died. However, Elizabeth was still alive in 1828 when her son Edward William Walby wrote his will - he specifically left provision for his mother, suggesting that she was probably a widow by that time. Back in Aston, Edward's mother died in 1800. References
