[edit] Personal History[edit] George Griffen Sherwood (1872-1918 flu pandemic, age 46)Both George and his wife, Mary Bruster Allen, died in April during the start of the 1918 flu pandemic. Their death was typical of the pandemic which affected young adults most severely because it is thought their immune systems are most active. When they died, their children were young; George, 12, Mary Virginia, 8, and Josephine, 2. The older children were taken by Mary Allen's brother and sister in Ames, Iowa. Before moving to Ames, they had lived in North Dakota. Josie, the youngest, was taken in by her father's mother, Grandma Sherwood. The older two did not see their young sister "for years." Mary was quite a good artist and many of her paintings were displayed at Virginia's cottage/home on Indian Lake near Dowagiac, Michigan. He met his wife, Mary Bruster Sherwood, while attending Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. WikiTree.com Page [1] |
