2009-a good contact for this family line contacted me via e-mail. Nancy Cifers lives in Amelia Co., VA. She is the great granddaughter of George W Midkiff, Jr. Some of her research: [see notes on George Washington Midkiff, Sr. pg] George Washington Midkiff, Jr was Nancy's great grandfather. Earnest Midkiff in WV has a gaelic Midkiff Bible. Nancy does not remember where in WV Earnest lives. George Washington Midkiff, Jr moved to Amelia after the Carroll county shooting at the courthouse. My Pa was in the courtroom with his uncle. Most of George Washington Midkiff Jr's kids came with him. I had a lot of relatives here telling stories and our line of the Midkiffs love to tell stories. My mama's family also moved here about the same time from Carroll county. There were Burcham and Easter. There are so many people form Patrick and Carroll that moved here thane that there are areas named for where they came form in the mountains. I will try to send thing to you, but we live out in the country and have dial-up. I tried to sent you a picture that my great aunt Bessie said was Elizabeth Livengood's parents, but it wouldn't send. "My daddy" said that "his daddy" said that when he was a boy and they still lived in the mountains, he helped "his daddy" [George Washington Midkiff, Jr] and brothers get in a woman's crop and cut wood for her. Pa always believed it was Rhoda. He was not sure because they left the mountains when he was 12 and he said he never went in the house. They traveled here by wagon and didn't make a lot of trips back. They wrote letters to his sister and some other relatives that stayed. When I was young they told me that a trip to the mountains was 2 days by car. It is 200 miles from here. We still have some people that we visit when we go, but not like when I was younger.
