I believe he was the son of Marshall Compton (1812-1893) and his first wife Asenath Foster, both of Pike Co., Ohio. They came to Steuben, Warren Co., Indiana about 1846. George and Annetta had 3 children: Carrie Eva 1867-bef 1900? (m. Douben?); Scott 1870; and Effie 1874 -- as well as one who probably died very young (per 1900 census). In the 1870 census Warren Co, Steuben Twp, IN Census (481-465), they are listed as "Compton, George, 27, OH; Jenetti?, 24 IN; Carrie E, 3; Scott, 4/12; Hosley, Lizzie 16 - dom servant." They are next door to Annette's parents. In the 1880 census for Steuben, Warren Co., Indiana, Geo. W. Compton is 38, born Ohio (parents same), farmer; with wife Jennie 34 Indiana (father Kentucky, mother Ohio); and children Eva 13; Scott 10; and Effie 7 -- all born Indiana (father OH, mother IN) {Page 48A} Eva is also listed with her sister Sarah Whitten. In the 1900 census for Pike Township, West Lebanon, Warren Co., Indiana, George Compton is 66 born Mar 1844 in Ohio (parents same), 'landlord', married 35 years; with wife Annetta J. 54 born Sep 1845 in Indiana (father Ohio, mother Kentucky), with 3 of 4 children living; daughter Effie J. is 25 born Aug 1874 in Indiana (father Ohio, mother Indiana), single; and grandaughter Gladys (Bourden?), is 11, born Sept 1888 in Michigan (father MI, mother IN). Compton, 79, widow[er]; Charles W., [half] brother, 57, widow[er]." In the 1930 census for Pike, Warren Co., there is a listing for Charles Compton 1863. There are notices of marriages of Eva Compton to George W. Bourdon in 1887; for Scott Compton to Olla A.
