According to a news note in the Mississippi Valley Historical Review, volume 48, Number 2, Dr. Worthington left Southern Illinois University in 1961 to become Professor of History and Academic Vice President of the University of Alaska. However, Adams' limited correspondence collection in the Southern Illinois University Archives indicates that he may have remained in Carbondale. He was elected to serve on the editorial board of the Ulysses S. Grant Association in 1964.Sources: "Historical News and Comments" The Mississippi Valley Historical Review, Vol. 48, No. 2 (Sep., 1961), pp. 355-387.
