!BIRTH-MARRIAGE: Letter from Margaret RENTROP MOORE,5307 Goos Ferry Road, Lake Charles, LA 70615, sent in May 1996. Frederick Wilhelm RENTROP, born 16 Sep 1784 in Prussia, married on 18 Nov 1805 in Plattenville, Assumption, LA to Marie Marquerite [sic] LICAIRE (LECOEUR/LIQUEOR), who was born around 1783/1784, daughter of Jean & Marie MALBROU (MALBOEUF). !EDUCATION: Diocese of Baton Rouge, CATHOLIC CHURCH RECORDS; vol. 3, p. 581. Under entry for "LIPPSY, Juan Enrrique" is a burial for the man from Volfenbuttel, Germany. NOTE says: "Known as Frederico, a carpenter working on Francois GIROD's house. Among his personal effects were found and interpreted by Mr. RENTROP, also German, documents indicating the above name and place of birth. Buried 23 Jun 1810 (ASM-3, 61) [probably the son Friedrich Wilhelm RENTROP, married in Assumption Parish to Marie Marguerite LACOUR] !CENSUS: 1813, Atchafalaya, LA. Fred RENTROP, Sergeant, Baker's Regiment, Louisiana Militia (Orig. under RENTHROP, Frederick). !MILITARY: National Archives, Veterans Records; 1812; photocopy of Military file in possession of Karen Theriot Reader. Frederick RENTHROP [346 at head of card], two rolls listed (#38137803 & # -7852). He was a Sergeant in Baker's Regiment, Louisiana Militia, War of 1812, no personal papers included. He was in Capt. William BIGGS' Company, Drafted Militia, 14 Regiment of Louisiana Militia, and appeared "Present" on Company Muster Roll for 19 Jan 1815 to 13 Mar 1815, taken at Franklin, County of Attakapas, LA. He rendezvoused on 19 Jan and was discharged on 13 Mar 1815. A second card is for Fred. RENTROP, same Company and Regiment, appeared on Company Pay Roll for 19 Jan 1815 to 13 Mar 1815, roll not dated. Term of service was 1 month, 22 days, at $11 per month. He was paid $18.80. Joseph DEROUEN [the nephew] sold to Frederick RENTROP a tract of land measuring 3 x 40 arpents on the west side of Bayou Teche, bounded above by the lands of Francois MILHOMME and on lower side by those of DEROUEN, being the same which DEROUEN purchased from John NOPFER. Dated 14 Sep 1811, price $210, record No. 33 in St. Mary Parish Conveyances. On p. 365, Frederick RENTHROP sold to Henry JOHNSON of Donaldsonville a tract of land 3 x 40 arpents on the west side of Bayou Teche, bounded above by Francois MILHOMME and on the lower side by Deroin NOPPER, according to plat made by James L. JOHNSON, being part of a tract purchased by Joseph DORAIN [DEROUEN?], nephew of John NOPPER. Price $400, dated 24 Nov 1814, record No. 277 in St. Mary Parish Conveyances. On p. 369, Christopher BRYAN sold tract of 640 acres situated on Lake Verret at the Canal in Assumption Parish, running up both sides of the Canal for 40 acres, to Henry JOHNSON, who sold it to Frederick RENTROP and Henry KNIGHT. Dated 12 Aug 1815, No. 313 in St. Mary Parish Conveyances. On p. 395, Ursin PRÉVOST sold to Henry KNIGHT and Frederick RENTROP of Assumption Parish a slave named Same (age 31) for $700 cash, dated 2 Feb 1818, No. 561 in St. Mary Parish Conveyances. !OCCUPATION: Elton J. Oubre, "The Malbrough Family," 21-page article sent by Edward Domangue in May 1996. On p. 5, Henry "Knight and Rentrop, pioneers on the Attakapas Canal and Berwick Bay, operated a ferry and carried mail on the lakes (Verret, Palourde) between Assumption and St. Mary Parishes." Two LIQUEUR sisters were married to the men. (Reference: Merle Ganier, SOME DESCENDANTS OF JACOB KNIGHT OF PENNSYLVANIA AND LOUISIANA) !DEATH: Before daughter Marguerite's wedding on 29 May 1834, according to her marriage license (copy in possession of Karen Theriot READER). His widow named Mistress Margarite Liquar [LACOUR]. Witness to the marriage was Augustus RENTROPE (a son of Frederick?). References
