Death of Mr. F. Paltridge
Mount Barker, October 15, 1902
The serious illnes of Mr. Frederick Paltridge, of Mount Barker, terminated somewhat suddenly this morning. The deceased, who was the second son of Mr. John Paltridge, was born at Mount Barker 41 years ago, and was, until recently, a partner in the well-known firm of John Paltridge & Co., auctioneers, Mount Barker & Adelaide. He was universally esteemed, was a good townsman, and was connected with all the local institutions. His illness had lasted about three months, and although its serious nature was recognized by the family it was hardly anticipated that he would pass away so soon. He left a widow (the daughter of Mr. T. H. Stephenson, an old and respected resident), for whom the sincerest sympathy is expressed. Mr. Paltridge was a nephew of Mr. Thomas Paltridge (for many years chairman of the Mount Barker District Council, and the son of the founder of the extensive tannery in that township.) Mr. Harry Paltridge, the auctioneer, is his elder brother, while his eldest sister married Mr. C.M.R. Dumas, late member for Mount Barker and proprietor of the Courier. His grandmother was a sister of Mr. John Dunn, who established the milling firm of Messrs. John Dunn & Co. in 1842, and died at a ripe old age some years ago. Mr. Paltridge had no children.
