Much regret will be felt throughout a large circle of friends in Mount Barker and elsewhere concerning the announcement of the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Paltridge, wife of Mr. John Paltridge, who was the founder of the auctioneering firm bearing his name. Mr. Paltridge, who had just completed her 83rd year, was a sister of the late Mr. William Chapman, who received the Government's reward for the discovery of a payable gold field at Echunga, and she arrived in South Australia 58 years ago. She was everywhere highly respected for her kindly nature and her open-handed hospitality. She had lived in Mount Barker continuously almost from the period of its first settlement, and she enjoyed the hearty goodwill of everyone in the town, and particularly, those of the older generation. She has left one son and three daughters, one of the latter being being the wife of Mr. C. M. R. Dumas, formerly member for Mount Barker in the House of Assembly.
