Mr. Charles Morris Russell Dumas died at his home at Mount Barker, South Australia on Monday night, aged 83. In 1880 he issued the first number of the "Mount Barker Courier," which is still being published, and has had only one editor-proprietor. Mr. Dumas was at one time a member of the House of Assembly. He was a foundation member of the Provincial Press Association of South Australia, and chairman since April, 1915. Mr. Charles Morris Russell Dumas was born in Sydney in 851. He arrived in Mount Barker with his parents when 3 years of age, and remained there until he had attained his 17th year. Then he went to Adelaide for three years, but returned to Mount Barker, and on April 22, 1872, at the early age of 21, started a printing business. By perseverance and industry he made a success of this, and in 1880 decided to publish a local newspaper. On October 1 of that year the Courier made its appearance, the townspeople celebrating the event with a banquet. In 1893 Mr. Dumas built the present Courier offices, and removed his business to the new premises on June 25 of that year. ...
