WADDELL, Lincoln Co. MS, done by Owens Roberts, Attorney, Brookhaven, Lincoln Co., MS. !NOTES OF INTEREST: F.M.WADDELL used his given initials for his signature but was probably called by his second given name, Marion, by family and friends. Only the name Marion was found in the 1880 census and on a list of volunteer soldiers, although both full given names were on the General Index of Confederate Soldiers. He signed all of his deeds, F.M.WADDELL. Covington County, MS records have been destroyed by fire. One deed book that still remains showed that Marion and Sarah sold land in Covington Co. in 1867 and again in 1875. They bought their land in Lincoln County MS 1879. Marion was a member of the Methodist Church. His cause of death was unknown, but an article in the WESSON MIRROR stated that he has been very ill for three months before he died. Marion is buried in the WADDELL-POWERS family cemetery in Wesson, MS. This cemetery is fenced in and sits on a small knoll. It is surrounded by pastureland used for grazing cattle. It is on private land owned by the POWERS family but very near to the WADDELL property. The POWERS graves are unmarked and there is no indication as to where or how many are located there. There are five WADDELL graves, each covered with concrete. Marion's is the only with a marker. WADDELL PETTIGREW, grandson to Marion said the other four graves are graves of Sarah LAIRD WADDELL, Wellington, Maurice, and Robert L. WADDELL. |
