    FRANCIS, Sandy Beach, ± 70 in 1686, here by 1640-1 when sued by William Whiting. Constable for upper Str. Bank 1649-1651; O. F. 1657; gr.j. 1656, 1667, 1668. Lists 43, 47, 52, 54, 57, 311b, 312e, 313a, 323, 326ac, 330ab, 332b, 341, 356l. His w. Christian was wit. ag. Anne Crowther bef. the gr.j. in 1648 and was sued for slander in 1655. On Sept. 29, 1691, while the younger men were out fishing, the Brackett and Rand houses at Sandy Beach were attacked by Ind. and 16 persons slain (including Francis and Christian Band) or carried into captivity. One s. or gr.s. was surely captured, and prob. other Rand wives and ch. were among the victims. His will, 31 Dec. 1689 - 19 Feb. 1691-2, names his w., surv. ch. and the ch. of his s. Samuel by his now w. Mary; sons Samuel and Thomas exec. Ch:

    1) Francis, freed from training for 3 yrs. in 1668 ‘there being some distemper on him’; taxed 1675; wit. 1676; put under bonds to keep the peace on compl. of Seaborn Hodge in 1684; Lists 52, 313a; not in fa.’s will.
    2) William, appren. to John Partridge; his fa. gave bond for him in 1676; bot liquor of Richard Webber’s w. in 1678; d. by 1680 (List 313d).
    3) Nathaniel, ± 45 in 1683; of Portsm., laborer, jailed for debt, 1683; sued by Samuel Rollins and jailed for lack of security, 1685; List 94; in fa.’s will (5 s. only); poss. an Ind. victim.
