Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA) - April 21, 1996 Services for Florence M. McCarthy, 81, of Stonehill Care Center, formerly of 9545 Monticello Drive, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, both in Key West. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Monday at the church. The Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., is in charge of arrangements. She gave 32 years of dedicated service to the former Dubuque Packing Co., where she held several positions before retiring in 1972. She was born on April 27, 1914, in Garryowen, rural Bernard, Iowa, daughter of John and Mary (Reddin) Deacon. She died at 9:25 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 1996, at the care center. She married James C. McCarthy at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen; he died Sept. 25, 1976. Surviving are a daughter, Janaan M. (Alvin E.) Cooper, of Dubuque; three grandsons, Alvin J. Cooper, Raymond E. (Judy) Cooper, and Gary E. Cooper; six great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters; three sisters, Geraldine Massey, Marie Sullivan, and Helen Whaley, all of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Zelma Deacon; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. The family is asking that no flowers be sent. Memorials may be given to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund, Key West, and Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque. Image Gallery
