She started her teaching career in Saylorville and spent more than 40 years with Duval Co. School System, Jacksonville, Fl. Graduate of Drake University where she majored in music. Member of Lake Shore United Methodist Church, Jacksonville. Survivors include three sons, Dr. Rob Rittgres of St. Simons Island, GA., Rex Rittgers of Jacksonville, John Rittgers of Tallahassee; dau Dixie Russell of Tallahassee; two step-daughters, Carol Dikinson of Golden, Colo and Mary Ann Roberts of Johnston. Ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by beloved husband Robert J. Rittgers, son Norman Erickson and her parents, Lawrence and Effie (Carlson) Banning.
