Mrs Flora Bates aged 74yrs, mother of Don E.Bates of the Reo, and one of the best known older residents of the northwest section of the city, passed away at her home, 413 West Saginaw St. on Friday night, following an illness of 9wks duration. Funeral services will be held at the home at 2pm on Monday, conducted by Rev.L.B.Bissell of Detroit & Rev.H.H.Pitzer, paster of Franklin Ave Presbyterian church, of which Mrs.Bates had long been an active member. Mrs.Bates, formerly Miss Flora McIntyre, was born in Unadilla Twp, Livingston county, on Aapr 5, 1843, her parents having come to that section as pioneer settlers of the then Michigan forest. Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Bates attended Albion college an taught school for several years in this part of the state. Her marrige to Edwin S.Bates took place July 1, 1873, at which time they came to Lansing residing here ever since. Mr.Bates died May 1, 1902. Besides the only son, Mrs.Bates is survived by 3 sisters: Mrs.Ann McKenzie, Mrs.Minnie Sweet, and Miss Nettie McIntyre, all of Stockbridge.
