The following engagement announcements contributed by Dr. Anthony Troha. I (Janie) have been unable to learn if, when or where the marriage actually took place. Winifred is not listed with her parents on the 1910 census.

The Brooklyn Daily Eagle, Wednesday October 2, 1907, Page 4, Column 1:

“Announcement is made of the engagement of Miss F. Winifred Rosemon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Rosemon of Bensonhurst, to Guy Richard Gregory of Chicago.”

The Sun, Sunday, October 6, 1907, Page 9, Column 5:

“Announcement is made of the engagement of Miss F. Winifred Rosemon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Rosemon of Brooklyn, to Guy Richard Gregory of Chicago.”

Researched and contributed by Dr. Anthony Troha: Here is a newspaper article which gives the birth date of Fannie Winifred Rosemon-18592 and lists some of her relatives:

The Brooklyn Daily Eagle, Monday, January 20, 1896, Page 8, Column 7: “A BIRTHDAY PARTY

Last Friday evening [i.e. Friday, January 17, 1896] a merry gathering was held at the house of Cornelius P. Rosemon, 756 Putnam avenue, to celebrate the 13th birthday anniversary of Mr. Rosemon’s daughter, Miss Fannie. It was a family gathering, nearly all the members of the family being present. Games were played during the evening and there was plenty of piano music, Mrs. E. C. Keys and the Misses Fannie and Mabel Rosemon giving selections. Eugene V. Rosemon rendered several vocal solos, accompanied by Miss Lewis. A collation was served late in the evening and after many congratulations the party broke up long after midnight. Those present beside Miss Fannie’s father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Rosemon, were Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Keys, Henry C. Rosemon, Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Bishop, Miss Alice Rosemon, Mr. and Mrs. George B. Ketcham, Miss Evangeline Keys, Miss Edith Keys, Master Eddie Keys, Miss Lillian Rosemon, Miss Elsie Rosemon, Master Harold Rosemon, Miss Mabel Rosemon, Miss Estelle Rosemon, Eugene V. Rosemon, Miss Lewis, Miss Grace Bishop, Miss Elsie Bishop, Frank Jackson, Miss Fannie Jackson, Miss Maggie Jackson and Miss Emma Jackson.”

Assuming that the party was indeed held on her actual birthday, Fannie Winifred Rosemon-18592 was born on January 17, 1883. This date will prove to be invaluable later in this report. Based on other newspaper reports that I encountered during my searches, Mrs. Bishop and Mrs. Keys were apparently sisters of Cornelius P. Rosemon, Henry C. Rosemon was his brother, and the other Rosemon children [e.g. Mabel J. Rosemon] were nieces and nephews. Additionally, Mrs. Ketcham was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bishop. Hence, this party was indeed a family affair as reported.

Researched and contributed by Dr. Anthony Troha: I found a local news article about the family’s Summer activities one year. Each of the three mentioned Rosemon children are given middle initials in this piece, which gives us the proper name of Lillian “Lillie” D. Rosemon-18589 while confirming the others:

The Brooklyn Daily Eagle, Sunday, July 25, 1897, Page 8, Column 7: “NOTES Cornelius P. Rosemon, Miss Lillian D. Rosemon, Miss Fannie W. Rosemon, and Miss Elsie P. Rosemon of Putnam avenue, Brooklyn, who are summering at their residence at Bensonhurst, have just been guests of relatives at Bay Shore. They rode out as far as Freeport on their bicycles. Mr. Rosemon and family have been spending part of the vacation at Shelter Island.”
