    Eva Melvina Smith, 92, Topeka, died Monday, Nov. 13, 1995, at a Topeka nursing home.

    She was born June 1, 1903, in Wichita, the daughter of William Walker and Vellah Mae Coulter Newman. She moved with her family to Topeka as an infant and attended Topeka High School and Strickler's Business College. Mrs. Smith was a member of Seaman Congregational United Church of Christ and Helena Chapter No. 210 of the Order of the Eastern Star.

    She married Harold M. Smith on Sep. 2, 1921, in Lawrence. He died Oct. 1, 1982.

    Survivors include two daughters, Maxine E. Hutton and Arlene E. Metzger, both of Topeka; three sons, Harold M. Smith Jr., Reno, Nev., Leonard R. Smith, Topeka and Eugene W. Smith, Bonner Springs; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.

    Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Seaman Congregational United Church of Christ. Burial will be at Rochester Cemetery. Mrs. Smith will lie in state after 1 p.m. today at the mortuary where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Seaman Congregational United Church of Christ Memorial Fund, 2036 N.W. Independence, Topeka, 66608-1809.
