From: History of Gilead Evangelical Lutheran Church : Centre Brunswick, Rensselaer Co., N.Y. and the vicinity, Barnett, J. N., Fort Wayne, Ind., Gazette Co., book printers, 1881. "About this time (1771) the church seems to have had no regular pastor, and the more zealous of the members attended Divine service in Albany. The grandchildren of Mrs. Eve Brust, whose husband's name was Jacob, whose (Jacob's) father came directly from Germany, remember to have heard her frequently tell of walking, with many of her neighbors to Albany, 14 miles, to hear the preaching of the Gospel." (note: This may be apocryphal since the Hudson intervened. Could there have been a ferry?). It seems logical that this Eve is Eva Coonradt. If she were born in 1753 as Bernard Young indicates she would have been 18 in 1771. The question is when was Jacob born? We have him being baptized in 1759. We also have Eva being baptized in 1759. Was Jacob born about the same time as Eva, i.e. 1753? Further investigation is needed.
