This surname comes from Barbara Jeffries' GLOCKNER etc. webpage, where it is spelled Klum. Bernard Young's Coonradt webpage spells it Klumm. Glump, Klump, Clump, or Clum are other variations. Her name is given as Anna Margaretha but according to 18th century German naming custom, she should be called Margaretha. At baptism, if two names were given to the child, the first name was a spiritual, or saint's name. The second name was the secular or call name and is the name the person was known by. For girls the most common saints' names were Mary, Maria and Anna. From: The Book of Names, Especially Relating to the Early Palatines and the First Settlers in the Mohawk Valley Compiled by Lou D.
