Facts and Events
Esther was an accomplished musician. She played piano and organ. She played the large pipe organ in early theaters before there were “talking” movies. There she met Ben Greenbarg, a wealthy man 20 years her senior. Against her parents wished, Esther married Ben at age 18. She bore him two sons, David (1934) and Robert (1937).
Esther was a fervent Christian who continued to pay piano and organ in churches. She was the first piano player at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale when it still met in McNab School.
She lived with her mother, Annie, for about the last 20 years of her life at John Knox Village in Pompano Beach, FL. After Annie’s death in 1988 she moved to California to live with her son, Bob, a missionary to migrant workers. There she died in 1990.
