Esther Osteen and Osborne Reaves were Cherokee Indians. The Civil War Union Army discharge papers, of their son Jasper Reaves, gave this discription of Jasper Reaves; "five foot six inches in height, black eyes, dark hair and dark complexion". See "Wayne County Tennessee Families 1817-1999" Volume 2 page 159. In Cateret County North Carolina in 1768 an Esther Osteen was born. She was surely a relative of my Esther Osteen born in 1792. Esther Osteen is alive on the 1860 Wayne County census but gone on the 1870 census. Osborne Reaves is still there in 1870. I have given an estimated date of death of 1865 in Wayne County.
