birth parents: Osborn Reaves and Esther Osteen (1) Jasper Reaves served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He enrolled April 16,1862, in Company A the 10th Tennessee Infantry, as a Private. He was discharged May 25,1865 in Greenville Tennessee. His discharge papers were found by Mary Lynn Reaves Crafton, Jasper's granddaughter who lives in Arkansas. I was sent a copy of the discharge paper by Jasper Reaves' great granddaughter, Linda Mckee. The papers give this discription of Jasper Reaves; "five foot six inches high, dark complexion, black eyes and dark hair". Jasper's occupation, farmer. Linda Mckee was told by Jasper's son and her grandfather, John Benjamin Reaves (who died in 1957), that they were Cherokee Indian. IN 2001 JASPER REAVES' GRANDSON, FRANK REAVES JR, WROTE A NOTE TO LINDA MCKEE. FRANK REAVES JR WAS ABOUT 86 YEARS OLD. FRANK REAVES JR STATE THE FOLLOWING "WILL WRITE MORE LATER ON BEN REAVES, IMMEDIATE FAMILY. SEPARATION NORTH CAROLINA/TENNESSEE INDIAN RESERVATION, CHEROKEE NORTH CAROLINA. STILL EXISTS AND OUR BACK GENERATIONS SHOW INDIAN BLOOD. ESPECIALLY BUNDY (UNCLE), JASPER (GRANDFATHER) AND MY FATHER (HARVEY FRANKLIN REAVES)". |
