Facts and Events
Esther Moss was born in 1864 at Caddington. She was the fifth child of a bonnet sewer named Catherine Moss, formerly Warren, and her husband William Moss, an agricultural labourer. The family lived at Tipple Hill, in the part of Caddington parish which at the time was in Hertfordshire.
In September 1864, when Esther was only three or four months old, her mother Catherine died from consumption, aged 26. Esther was baptised three days after her mother's burial. Baby Esther did not long outlive her mother, being buried on 2nd November 1864 at Caddington, aged five months. Her cause of death was given as "burn of the breast" and convulsions.
