Catherine Warren appears to have been born around 1839 at Luton in Bedfordshire, daughter of a straw plaiter called Elizabeth Warren, formerly Booth or Bone, and her husband Joseph Warren, a straw plaiter and agricultural labourer. Some time around the early 1840s the family left Luton and moved to the nearby parish of Caddington. The 1851 census finds Catherine (apparently misrecorded as "Caroline") living with her parents and siblings at Folly in Caddington, with Catherine working as a straw plaiter.

On 19th July 1858 Catherine married an agricultural labourer called William Moss at Caddington. Catherine's sister Mary and Mary's husband Joseph Morehen were the witnesses to the marriage.

Catherine and William went on to have five children at Caddington between 1859 and 1864. The 1861 census finds the family living at Tipple Hill, in the part of Caddington parish which at that time was in Hertfordshire. Catherine was working as a bonnet sewer at this time. It seems that Catherine and her siblings were not baptised as infants, and she was baptised at Caddington as an adult on 8th September 1861, on the same day that her daughter Emily was baptised, and also alongside her sisters Mary and Rebecca.

Catherine died from consumption on 26th September 1864 at Caddington. She was said to be 26 years old. Her youngest daughter was only a few months old at the time and died the following month. William survived Catherine by nearly 47 years and remarried the year after her death.
