About Esther Alice Almeda Edmondson

Jackson and Esther Mayfield was buried at Maye, Oklahoma Evergreen Cemetery

Esther Almeda Alice Edmondson was born in Washington County, Virginia...her father and mother with their children left Virginia and travel to Morgan County, Missouri...when she was 14 years of age..they 

traveled over 700 miles in covered wagons and on foot...other than the sick and the one driving the wagons they walked the average travel was 10 miles a day it would have taken over 70 days that is over two months of travel.

They settled in Morgan County and that is were Esther married and buried her parents after her marriage she and Jackson moved to the next county (Camden) were she gave birth to most of her children...

Then in 1913 they went west to Maye Oklahoma....Esther and Jackson travel by train while her brother John and son-n-law Luther Wills took their stuff by cover wagon...the story is that Jackson had to get off at every train stop and see the sights. Almeda and Jackson got to Buffalo on the train the same day that John and Luther got there with the covered wagons....

Jackson died of Pneumonia the first winter and was buried in Maye, Oklahoma..about 9 miles out of Buffalo, Oklahoma...

Esther Almeda Alice Hettie Edmondson Mayfield lived the rest of her life in Oklahoma and Arkansas she live with her children, Esther was living with her daughter Elizabeth Jane when she died on January 7, 1940 at 1:30 AM she was 83 years 7 months 21 days old. She had been under the care of Doctor Al Lucau from Castle, Oklahoma from Nov. 3, 1939 till she died. Her funeral was taken care of by E. E. Bloom at Okemah, then taken to Evergreen Cemetery and laid to rest by the side of her late husband Jackson Mayfield

Esther Almeda . Matthew Buchanan Edmondson, brother to Robert her father, married Almeda Parsons in 1850's in Kanawha Co, Va. Could be the source of the name Almeda.
