According to the Shankland Family Research by Albert Shankland, Elzor married first Frances A. Burns in 1855 and had one child. He married Delilah Tomlinson in 1860, and finally Felicity Price in 1873.

In the 1860 census for Center, Boone Co., Indiana, Elzer Shankland is 27, day laborer, with Delilah 18, and Oreah 3 -- all born Indiana. {p. 668}

I believe he is the 'Clark Shankland' in the 1870 census for Lebanon, Center township, Boone Co., Indiana. He is 37, born Kentucky, working in a 'flouring mill', living in the household of Felicity Price, age 38 from Kentucky. She has 4 children: James P. 19 KY 'works in woolen mill'; And. B.17 KY, ' (?) laborer'; Barb A. 15 KY; Mary H. 14 IN; and Eliza A. 10 IN. {p.5}. He may be the 'Ezra C. Shanklin' in the 1880 census for Lebanon, Boone Co., Indiana. He is an engineer, age 42 from Indiana, parents Kentucky, single, living with the Daniel South family [as a boarder?]. There is also an Ora Shankland, age 23 IN (parents same), working as laborer in the George Logan household in Steuben, Warren Co., Indiana.
