 According to 'Descendants of William Shankland', his name was sometimes shown as 'Artis'.  He and Olivia had 4 children: Omar Ray, 1874-1952; a (unnamed) daughter; Delora Ena, 1875-1892; and Ida Eva, 1877-1909.
  In the 1870 census for Prairie Green, Iroquois Co., Illinois, Spencer Shankland is 27, a farmer from Indiana and wife Olive is 21, born Ohio. {p.457}
 In the 1880 census for Prairie Green, Iroquois Co., Illinois, S. A. Shankland is a farmer, age 37 from Indiana (father Virgina, mother Maryland) and wife 'Oliva' is 31, from Ohio (father Ohio, mother Pennsylvania).  The children are son Omer, 6, 'Delira', 5; and Ida, 3; all born in Illinois.  {p.345c, NARA T9-0214}
