1954 letter from Nelson: "I celebrated my 88th birthday Oct 26 and our Mens' Bible Class of the Presbyterian Church gave their annual birthday dinner on my birthday. . . I made them a little talk and told them I was born in a house boat at the mouth of the Hocking River at Hockingport, Ohio in 1866 and my father was a carpenter and built the boat and a year or so later sold it. We moved to New England, West Virginia. Father made coffins of walnut lumber and mother lined them with muslin and they took the coffins to the grave yards on road wagons. No undertakers then; no electric lights, no gas or telephones. So you see we had no conveniences like we have today."

Address in 1957 was 112 Prospect Ave., Charleroi, Pennsylvania. At one time he was in the insurance and real estate business. There is a newpaper article written about him in 1957 in which he says he moved to Charleroi, Pennsylvania from Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1902.
