James Bolton and Allie became Christian Scientists. At one time James was a 'Reader' in the church. After his wife died in 1929, "Papa Hall' lived in an apartment on the second floor of the church building on 7th Avenue in Parkersburg, West Virginia. His daughter has told me that he had a furniture store in Parkersburg, but lost it during the depression years. His children were all raised in a nice home on 19th Street, but by 1930 he was living in that apartment, so perhaps he lost the house also?? It was one of those things the family did not talk about to this little child.

Conflict: in this 1900 census James Bolton says he was born in Ohio and his parents born in Pennsylvania. Family records say he was born in New England, WV. The 1860 census bares out the truth of a New England, Wood Co., Virginia (now WV) birth. His mother was born in Pennsylvania but his father was born in Ohio. Possibly someone else gave the information to the census taker. When the birth record for James' son, Harry Leonard Hall, was found, it records that James Bolton Hall was born in New England, West Virginia.
(Puzzlement: A birth record has not yet been found but there is a birth record for a Myron T. Hall born on the same day: 30 Dec 1858. There is no census record for Myron. Could the parents have decided to change his name? There is no indication that there was a multiple birth.
