Elmer is buried with his father, John Faeth, in Voegtly Evangelical Church Cemetary, in Troy Hill, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in section 2, site #90.

According to Irma Faeth, when Elmer was about 17 he went to California and tried to work as an extra in the movie industry. His brother John went with him. Edwarda followed later. At some point, Elmer got a job laying cables for AT&T. He was sent to Alaska where he also mined (or panned) gold for awhile. While there he was Shanghai'ed on a boat to China and was not able to get off the boat for two years.
