Rites at Elk Creek for Mrs. Mostrom

Pioneer Resident Southwest of Town Passes Away 2 Days Before 81st Birthday

Funeral Services for Mrs. Ellen Mostrom, 81, were held Saturday afternoon at Elk Creek Lutheran Church, west of Kensett. The rites were conducted by her pastor, the Rev. J. W. Yivisaker of Northwood, assisted by her former pastor, the Rev. Thor Sigmund of Kensett.

Mrs. Mostrom died Wednesday of last week, June 12, just 2 days before the 81st anniversary of her birth. Her death occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. E. Knudson, where she had made her home in recent years. She had not been good health for several years but was able to be up and around until about 2 months ago, when she experienced a stroke from which she never recovered.

Mrs. Mostrom was born June 14, 1854, near Leland, Ill. She was baptized by Rev. Ole Hattlestad of that vicinity. At the age of one year, she moved with her parents to Fillmore County, Minn. where she resided for fifteen years. Here she received her religious training and was confirmed in her Christian faith by the Rev. Andreas Skie.

Her parents then moved Winneshiek County, Iowa where she lived with them until the spring of 1874, when she was united in marriage to John Mostrom, their wedding being solemnized on Mar. 10th at Decorah. They later moved to Worth County where Mr. Mostrom bought a farm about 10 miles southwest of Northwood. Here she lived until a few years after the death of her husband which occurred in 1908. During the last 24 years of her life, she lived in the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. E. Knudson. She had been a resident of Worth County for 61 years.

She is survived by five children and nine grandchildren. Her sons and daughters are Albert Mostrom, Northwood; Lewis Mostrom, Hawley, Minn.; Carl Mostrom, Miss Minnie Mostrom, and Mrs. R. E. Knudson, all of Northwood. Her husband and 5 children preceded her in death.

There are three brothers and 4 sisters living, Mrs. Mary Grobel, Minneapolis; Mrs. Josephine Swenson, Des Moines; Daniel and Emelia Iverson, Ellensburg, Washington; Joseph Iverson, Helena, Montana; Albert Iverson, Mabel, Minn.; and Mrs. Christ Kirkewold, Glenwood, Minn.

Relatives from away who attended the funeral services were Lewis Mostrom, Hawley, Minn.; Mrs. Christ Kirkewold, Glenwood, Minn.; Mr. & Mrs. Albert Iverson, Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Iverson, Mabel, Minn.; Mrs. Betsy Mostrom, Albert Mostrom, Mrs. Leonard Mostrom, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Judge and Mrs. Reed and daughter, June, Cresco, Iowa; Miss Olive Grobel, Minneapolis; Mrs. Robert Wiegand, Albert Lea...

(There was more information about attendees at the funeral but my sister-in-law got tired of writing.)
