Facts and Events
Elizabeth Hall was born in 1785, although it is not recorded where. She was the daughter of Sarah Hall, formerly Bigg, and her husband Richard Hall. Elizabeth's parents had married at Caddington in Bedfordshire in 1780, but they do not appear to have baptised their children as infants (probably suggesting non-conformist leanings) and the only other child found belonging to the couple was Sarah, baptised aged seven at St Paul's Walden, ten miles east of Caddington, in 1795, showing that the family moved around. Elizabeth was baptised aged seventeen or eighteen at Caddington on 31st January 1803, which was also her wedding day. She married a carpenter named Jeremiah Puddephatt, who was nineteen. Elizabeth and Jeremiah stayed in Caddington, where they had six or seven children between 1803 and 1823. The baptisms of some of the children record that the family lived at Felden Bottom in the Aley Green area of the parish, in the vicinity of the modern Mancroft Road between Aley Green and Lower Woodside. Jeremiah is recorded on these baptisms as being a carpenter. In 1831, Elizabeth's daughter Sophia married, and her first known grandchild was born shortly afterwards. Elizabeth died aged about 50, being buried at Caddington on 22nd October 1835. Jeremiah outlived her by nearly eight years. References
