Jeremiah Puddephatt was baptised on 11th May 1783 at Caddington in Bedfordshire, son of Elizabeth Puddephatt, formerly Briden, and her husband John Puddephatt, a carpenter. Jeremiah was the second of their seven children.
Jeremiah was married aged 19, on 31st January 1803 at Caddington to Elizabeth Hall. She was baptised on the day of their marriage, when she was said to have been born in 1785, making her 17 or 18 years old. Jeremiah and Elizabeth stayed in Caddington, where they had six or seven children between 1803 and 1823. The baptisms of some of the children record that the family lived at Felden Bottom in the Aley Green area of the parish, in the vicinity of the modern Mancroft Road between Aley Green and Lower Woodside. Jeremiah is recorded on these baptisms as being a carpenter.
In 1831, Jeremiah's daughter Sophia married, and his first known grandchild was born shortly afterwards.
Elizabeth died in 1835, leaving Jeremiah a widower at the age of 52.
Jeremiah's parents both died in 1837: his father was buried in the February and his mother in the September. Jeremiah's father John left a will, but this seems to have only been concerned with some money that John had lent to his son Peter and does not name any other children.
The 1841 census finds Jeremiah living at Market Hill in the nearby market town of Luton. He died on 14th October 1843 in the Union Workhouse in Luton, aged 60.

Needs to be confirmed at Bedfordshire Archives. This baptism has been linked to the Jeremiah Puddephatt who married Elizabeth Hall on the basis that it is in the parish in which the adult Jeremiah married and lived most of his adult life, and is at the time implied by the age quoted on his death certificate. Also, one of the witnesses to Jeremiah's marriage in 1803 was a John Puddephatt, and the Jeremiah baptised in 1783 had both a father and a brother named John Puddephatt alive and living locally at that time. Jeremiah was also a carpenter, which was the occupation of the John who was the father of the Jeremiah baptised in 1783.
