Elizabeth Cashore came to America in 1856 with her family. Her father Thomas came to New Jersey as a master mechanic to help build locomotives.

Grandma Cashore (Goldman) was a real "gentlewoman" from real aristocratic parents. She was very highly educated and a perfect type of woman. She married Grandpa Cashore against the wishes of her parents as he was "only a mechanic".
