Facts and Events
From Diane Delbridge Simsbury Town Records 2 1/2, 1, R17 from 1696 says "Elizabeth Miles the wife of James Miles you being now resident at your sons John Matsons these presents are to warrant you and admonish you, to depart out of These Bounds and Limits of the Township of Simsbury forth with...and you may not any longer reside here." There are also land transactions between James Miles and "my son-in-law John Matson" (Simsbury deeds 1:229 and others). Later, John Matson, Sr was allowed 40 shillings out of public money "towards keeping his mother Miles", so she was obviously allowed back into town. These records prove that Elizabeth married a second time to a James Miles, but no marriage has been found. There is a deposition given in Manwarring dated 28 Aug 1684 where James Miles deposed "aged about 35". James Meiles was one of the petitioners about 1686 on the estate of Thomas Buckland so they must have been married by then. There were apparently no children of this marriage. "Tempest" says he had either died or abandoned her prior to her being warned out, above. There is no further record of him. She was recorded as "widow Elizabeth Miles" at her death several years later. References
