Elizabeth Porteous, relict of late Robert Spears, esq., Glasgow merchant, d. (aged 85) 15may1848 at 14 St. Georges Rd., Glasgow (Caledonian Mercury). Robert Spears and Elisabeth Porteous had following children at Glasgow: Marion Grisel (b. 25aug1795), Alexander (b. 1aug1798), ?Robert (b. ?8jul1804), Cathrine Berry (b. 8oct1805) Robert (b. 29dec1807) (IGI). This could be Elizabeth Spears nee Porteous, her dau Katherine and grandson George Thomson: in 1841 Elisabeth Spears (1763 outside county), Katherine Spears (1806 Lanarkshire), George Thomson (1829 Lanarkshire), Elisabeth Mowberry (1816 outside county), all independent, were at 4 St. Georges Rd., Barony (census); later the name Mowbray was used as a middle name in the family. In 1844 Mrs. Spears, 14 St. Georges Rd. (PO Directory, Glasgow).
