Elijah Hudson was born in the state of New York, April 19, 1843, and died in Milton, Wis., April 11, 1915. When nearly one year of age he came to Wisconsin with his parents and settled on a farm a short distance north of Milton where he grew to manhood. At nineteen years of age he heard the call of his Country and in 1861 enlisted with some of the students of Milton College with Mr. Pliny Norcross as captain. He served four years, three months and eleven days and was mustered out in 1865. He was a member of the A. D. Hamilton Post of the Grand Army at Milton, Wis., for a number of years.
He was married to Miss Wealthy Aymar in the town of Lima July 11, 1894. Since his marriage he has lived in Milton with the exception of four years spent on a farm in the town of Lima. He was a member of a family of eight children, seven sons and one daughter. Two brothers survive him. He is also survived by his companion and four children, two sons and two daughters.
Last Saturday evening just after the evening meal, while in the best of spirits visiting with a friend and without any warning he was suddenly stricken with apoplexy and lingered until the early hours of the next morning in an unconscious condition. The community and relatives were greatly shocked, who had seen him but a short time before in his usual health.
The funeral services were held at his late residence Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock, Rev. Webster Millar officiating. The body was laid to rest by the side of loved ones in Milton.
Relatives from away who were in attendance at the funeral were: George Kelly of Minneapolis, Chas. Hudson and Mrs. John Mahon of Madison, Mrs. H. C. Aymar of Delavan, Mr. and Mrs. John Marston and Miss Ethel Aymar of Miller, S. D., Mr. and Mrs. Fred Freeman and Hiram Freeman of Whitewater.
