From Bill Boyle

I am working on this family and so far have found:

1) Elijah Harris never married Patience Geer. Patience gave birth to a so Elijah Harris, Jr but the birth record states Elijah Harris Sr was the "reputed" father.

2) Elijah Sr does not appear to have moved to Argyle, NY but appears to have settled with his family in Great Barrington, Mass., where they were buried in Muddy Brook Cemetery (New England Historical and Genealogical Register, 76 [1922]: 176)

3) Elijah Sr named a son Elijah but that son was born in 1780.

I believe my Elijah Harris who moved to Adams, NY in 1802 is the baseborn son of Patience Geer who married Richard Otis. An Elijah Harris of the correct age lived in Washington Co, NY where Argyle is located. I am working on proving that he and the son of Patience are one in the same and that he later moved to Adams. Patience and Richard Otis are said to had died in Adams, NY in 1826 and 1824, respectively.

I will keep you informed on my progress.

In the 1790 census, his numbers were 1-2-5-0-0 In the 1800 census, his numbers were 2-0-2-0-1-2-2-2-0-1-0

Elijah inherited at least a portion of the farm from his father. Reading the will, it appears each son inherited one third of the land. As the will reads, "... for the use and benefit of my other two sons Elijah and Elias..."
