On all of the lists Edward Shissler is listed as doing business in Minersville. At first he is listed being taxed as Retail and Mfg. with one one horse carriage. Then he is listed as being taxed on Boots & Shoes; Rough Leather; Calf Skins; Boots & Shoes for Sale; Boots & Shoes to Order; Damaged Leather; Finished Leather, etc. [I have to raise the question: do these lists belong to this Edward Shissler (1825-1901) or to his nephew, Edward Landes Shissler (1848-1904). Apparently Edward Landes Shissler was also in the shoe business according to the 1916 book, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, Vol II, pg 866. 1870 census-PA-Schuylkill-Minersville-pg 46-25 Jul 1870-lines 3-9-dwelling/family 369-Edward; 45; boot & shoe merchant; real estate value $25,000; personal estate value $2,000; Albert E; 22; Walter S; 18; Frederick C; 12; Henrietta; 11; Henry F; 9; John C; 8 1880 census-PA-Schuylkill-Minersville-pg 31-ED 215-15 Jun 1880-lines 33-44-dwelling 335-family 339-Edward; 55; superintendent of boot & shoe factory; Cecelia H; 43; wife [wife #2]; boot & shoe manufacturer & dealer; born PA as are her parents; Henrietta; 21; works in boot & shoe factory; born PA; father born PA; mother born MA; Henry F; 19; works in boot & shoe factory; born PA; fatgher born PA; mother born MA; John C; 17; works in boot & shoe factory; born PA; father born PA; mother born MA; William K; 8; at school; born PA as are his parents; Emily; 6; at school; born PA as are her parents; Jennie Kaufman; 21; step-daughter; works in Boot & shoe factory; born PA as are her parents; Carrie Kaufman; 19; step-daughter; at home; born PA as are her parents; Lucy Hartz; 27; boarder; works in boot & shoe factory; born PA as are her parents; Annie Ach?????; 27; boarder; works in boot & shoe factory; born PA as are her parents; Maggie Bettinger; 17; servant; born PA; parents born Prussia 1900 census-PA-Schuylkill-Minersville-Ward 1-25 Jun 1900-ED 126-sheet 14A-lines 31-33-dwelling 274-family 269-Edward; born Oct 1824; 75; married 28 years; owns his house with a mortgage; Cecelia; born May 1837; 63; mother of 6, 3 living; Emily; born May 1874; 26 1901-Veterans Burial Card-Edward Shissler; b 1824; d 1901; Civil War Army; 17 Sep 1862-28 Sep 1862 (10 days?); Co ????; 17th Regt; Private; Co K; 39th Regt; Major; buried Methodist cemetery; Branch, Minersville, Schuylkill, PA; lot 251 References
