    This is the last Will and Testament of me Edward Jordan of Hunts Green in the Parish of Charlwood in the County of Surry Batchelor I direct that after my decease and burial all my lawful debts and funeral expences shall be paid from out the proceeds of my estate The payments aforesaid being all duly made I give and bequeath to my brother Leonard Thomas Jordan servant to and now living in the house of Mr John Lee at Parkhouse Farm in the Parish of Charlwood County of Surrey aforesaid All the Remainder of my property and estate the whole being personal property and whether the said property shall be found to consist of money notes of hand or any other securities for money clothes household furniture or any other thing I give it altogether to my said brother Leonard Thomas Jordan In giving thus the whole of my Estate to the said Leonard Thomas Jordan I do so in the confidence and expectation that he will have a care for the welfare of his and my sisters and their families and that he will render them reasonable assistance according to his means if they should be in distress or need and particularly I hope he will see that the two youngest children of our late brother Richard be sent to School and be at least taught to read and write But I expressly declare that the aforesaid expression of confidence shall not be held to create a trust I appoint my said brother Leonard Thomas Jordan to be the sole Executor of this my Will In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this twenty third day of May one thousand eight hundred and forty nine The mark X of Edward Jordan Signed and declared by the said Edward Jordan as and to be his last Will and Testament by affixing his mark at the foot or end thereof (the same having been previously read over to him in our presence) in the presence of us both being present at the same time who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have put our names as witnesses thereto the day and year therein written Charles Constable Horley Mill in Horley Surrey - Alfred Lloyd Horley Surrey
